The Park - while still staying true to its agriculture roots with an annual Agri-Show, Rodeos, Chuckwagon Races, Live Horse Racing, and indoor and outdoor accommodations for horses and other farm-related animals - also offers a selection of facilities for a multitude of events.

A variety of halls, convention/conference facilities, paved parking, pavilions, riding trails, fully licensed restaurant and lounge (open 363 days a year from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.), family restaurant, and other special features, like a 2,700 seat grandstand and what is regarded as one of the best race tracks in Canada, create a unique, picturesque and versatile setting for any event - all just minutes south of downtown Grande Prairie!

Position Summary

Evergreen Park is currently seeking a General Manager to provide leadership and strategic direction in achieving its vision to be the most successful agricultural, exhibition and recreation destination in Northern Alberta. We demonstrate our commitment to community development and tourism by promoting our extensive agricultural, exhibition and entertainment facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager is responsible to guide the day-to-day operations of the many facilities and the variety of operations of the Park. Embracing our "Guests First" and "Staff First" philosophy, the General Manager will support operations of the Casino, Restaurant, RaceTrack, Campground, Event Centres, and Arenas. Ability and willingness to learn the variety of specialized areas of the Park is needed as the General Manager is responsible for overall management of catering and banquets, conferences and events, casino and live horse racing, livestock programs, seasonal campground, equine programs, and maintaining and growing sponsorships.

The General Manager leads a team of managers to achieve results in all these areas. Direct reports of the General Manager include an Assistant General Manager, Accounting Manager, Operations Manager, Facility Sales Manager, Executive Chef, Restaurant and Lounge Manager, Racing and Gaming Manager, Arena Manager, and Sponsorship and Marketing Manager. In addition to these lead roles, Evergreen Park has a core full-time staff of approximately thirty, and staffing levels increase up to 140 seasonally and for event support.

The General Manager works closely with the Board of Directors, advising and facilitating the development of policies and standards, supporting Board planning and decision-making, and serving as a non-voting member and coordinator for all Board committees. This position works closely with the Board to support the development of short and long-range plans. The General Manager also participates as a Board member on several regional Agricultural Society boards.

Financial acumen to develop annual operating and capital budgets, optimize various revenue sources, complete grant applications, ensure cost-effective operations and report on financial performance are key to success in this role.

Hosting weddings, festivals, trade shows, and concerts requires scheduling flexibility to support activities taking place evenings, weekends, and holidays. The variety of operations at Evergreen Park requires flexibility to learn and complete diverse tasks.

We specialize in unique and are looking for a General Manager who can meet the diverse demands at the largest multi-purpose, multi-facility, and most-used major venue north of Edmonton to ensure the Park's ongoing success.

The new General Manager will possess the following qualifications:

  1. Post-secondary degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related discipline;
  2. Approximately 5 to 10 years relevant experience in a management position;
  3. Experience working with a governance Board of Directors;
  4. Experience in strategic planning, organizational development, and achieving results through others;
  5. Experience coaching leaders and employees, to build individual and organizational capacity;
  6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and build relationships;
  7. Skilled communicator with proficiency in conflict resolution;
  8. Results-orientation, with the drive for innovation and excellence.
