Part of Council's Strategic Plan is to build vibrant and prosperous communities by providing supports to our partners to encourage economic development; and to our stakeholders to encourage community development. Collaborating with the Economic Development team and other County departments in a wide variety of areas including, but not limited to investment attraction, entrepreneurial development, business retention and expansion, workforce training, marketing, social media, tourism and land development, this position develops, implements, and manages strategies and project plans related to investment attraction.

Primary duties will include:

  • Provide assistance and referral services to new investors and local businesses
  • Respond to incoming business inquiries and leads
  • Knowledge of municipal zoning, permitting, and real estate market
  • Represent the department and County at local, regional and provincial events
  • Deliver presentations about economic development services and the County of Grande Prairie economic market to stakeholders
  • Promote the County of Grande Prairie to external audiences at events, conference, trade shows and other investment attraction venues
  • Conduct, analyze and interpret research on the local business community, prospect companies and economic impact
  • Assist with all marketing and communications initiatives
  • Manage economic development related projects and associated relationships.

The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively in a high functioning team. You will also possess:

  • An undergraduate degree in a discipline related to economic development (marketing, business administration)
  • Economic Development designation (EC.D and or CEcD) preferred
  • 5 years' experience working directly in the economic development field within a municipality
  • Strong computer skills are essential (Office 365)
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)
  • Experience developing and implementing strategies, programs and services that meet the needs of the business and investment community
  • Knowledge of the County of Grande Prairie and its business community
  • The expectation of this position involves significant travel to Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto.
